Every so often I find my pincushion has morphed into something more life-like. When I do catch the little hands playing with it, I am tempted to stop them. But would I really want to miss out on this? I wish I had taken pictures of some of the other designs. Pretty cute.

And about 2 days ago, I had some lemons sitting in a bowl that suddenly went missing. It was a mystery until this morning.

The culprit? That would without a doubt be “T.C.” (Tiger Cub).

So we finally got a pumpkin and carved it. Here are some pictures from our little family ritual.

I won’t even tell you what time of the morning it is and I am eating cookies. Not planned. As I did eat an actual semi-healthy breakfast. But I have had such a sweet tooth with this pregnancy. I remember I always craved fruits and veggies while pregnant with the boys – but this one! Seriously, meat and sweets. Meat! I know, me – Miss “I would prefer a meal without meat”, abandoned Charming in our attempt at vegetarianism. He just doesn’t understand what a real craving is! But anyway, the cookies – fabulous! And they’re oatmeal raisin. So that kinda counts as a second breakfast, really. Just don’t tell my kids. In fact, I feel sort of guilty because they don’t know Charming brought these cookies home from the store last night. I had every intention of surprising them with what is known as a rare treat around here. My kids do eat cookies, its just that I never buy them but really, baking cookies in a house that’s already 98 degrees (joking….a little) is just absurd. So I am thinking about just keeping them my little secret. Is that just awful?

I just found out you can make your blog into a book. There is a company that does this. I’m so excited. I figured I’d give it a full year first and then give it a try. It would be so lovely to have for my kids to read and be horrified of the things I shared with…well, whoever is actually reading this!

By Amy Karol, whose blog I love btw, Angry Chicken. I’ve made a couple things but gave them away as gifts before I could photograph them. The other day I thought I’d try out the purse – which is going to be a Christmas gift for probably every female on my list! Anyway, I was pleased with the outcome and how easy it was! I think I might make them a little bigger from now on with a longer strap. But for now, this would make a cute going out purse. (Ahem…Charming, if you are reading this…. “Going out” purse?) I don’t really have a pretty place to photograph my stuff. I’ll have to work on that.

Speaking of creativity and making things, I wanted to share with you a snack Rocket made for me the other day.

Looks good doesn’t it? Tomatoes, cucumber, and raw potatoes chopped up and drizzled with hot sauce, wheat germ (”to make it healthy”), and red hots – that I didn’t even know we had! I ate it. Yes I took a few bites in front of him. “Mmmm…spicy, different, but very creative. I’ll have to save some for daddy!” was my response. Yesterday he made me Hot Onion Sugar Tea. I cannot tell you how much I didn’t want to taste this. So I said he had to taste it first and he said “no way!” Is he trying to pull a fast one on me? Let’s see how far mommy will go to support my creativity…

Funny children. They know. But I don’t think they know that we sorta know.

The Couch August 28, 2008

Sorry, this post should have come with a warning.

The photo above is a typical scene on my couch. Earlier this morning I felt such accomplishment in getting all the clothes folded and put away only to be replaced an hour later by another load. The frustrating thing is that when I start the folding process, I am so often interrupted and the once folded clothes get unfolded again. Thus making the couch the place for the constant pile of clothes that need to be tended to.

Ugh.

Someday I will get this down. Here is, however, a more favorable scene on the couch.

My kids are obsessed with the Chinese Olympic Theme Song – “Beijing Welcomes you”. If you want to be singing it in your head ALL DAY, even though you have not the slightest clue what you’re saying, you can find it here. Its playing right now and they are all next to me singing along. It gives me the kind of laugh that is comes from my innerost parts and brings tears to my eyes!

It all started when Charming (husband) wanted to show the kids some of the Olympics on Youtube. (We are kind of YouTube junkies around here.) Now Rocket wants to know all about China and the Chinese language and…when are we gonna go?

I’m going to throw some pictures in here that Rocket took yesterday. They totally capture boyhood. I love it. Hope everyone has a happy day!

…and not much to write about. But I took some pics and figured I could write something about them, and I am sure someday when I’ve forgotten about this post, it will be a sweet thing to be reminded of.

Yesterday I took my two older boys swimming. I do not own a swimsuit right now, so I sat on the sidelines. But they had fun anyway and it was a blast for me to just sit there and watch them splash and try to do cannonballs – they practically step off the edge and barely grab a knee or two before they hit the water! Its adorable. I hadn’t realized how EASY it is to have only a 6 and 3 year old. My gosh. I could actually sit and watch…no chasing or yelling or wondering why the heck I chose to do this!

And this is what I did:

No really. I sat and watched (and of course clapped and laughed and took pictures) and dug through some of my old Martha Stewart Kids and Martha Stewart Baby magazines for some new project ideas and inspiration. It was bliss.

Today’s funny pic is of Rocket (my eldest) as I stepped outside to see what he was doing, I was a little taken back by what looked like a modern Tom Sawyer running away. So I ran in to get my camera and had him pose again for the “candid” shot.

Two down, six to go. Blinds. To put it lightly – I hate them. When we moved in here I was given permission by the lovely owners to go ahead and take down all the blinds. So after a couple months of putting off the reconstruction of old curtains into two sets of new ones, I finally got down to business tonight. Woohoo! Check these out. I think these are so cute, even though I may be doing the “bird” thing a little late in the year. (I am sure Spring would have been more apropos – but that is when I had the idea, does that count?)

I guess I’ll give these lovelies two more months or so, then switch to something more fall-ish. I still have six more windows to go, I better not get too far ahead of myself.

Speaking of Fall (my favorite season that just doesn’t come soon enough), should I be thinking of Halloween? I sure don’t think so. Let me explain. I, for some reason, am on the Pottery Barn Kids email list. I received an email from them yesterday announcing they have everything I need for Halloween. Now I am all about planning ahead (though I may not do it all that often) but Halloween is two and a half months away. No thank you! Let me enjoy the season when it comes! Also tonight I overheard a commercial on TV with dear old Santa and his elves are telling us about some Halloween sale, somewhere.

Seriously?

I enjoy the stress-free qualities of Halloween and I’d like to keep it that way. No pressure. Make costumes. Visit pumpkin patches. Crafts. Cookies. Fun stuff. Why must our culture insist on stressing us out?!

Well, anyway. Back to August and the lovely humidity. And on to the next project in line: setting up my sewing area. (I can’t wait!)
